With less than two months to go in the MAA there is still
much to play for. The big prizes in terms of Championships
and cup finals are now a distant dream, but the battle for
second place in the Premier and First Division is still
very much on.
First Team
Notts first team have had an excellent run since Christmas,
being unbeaten in their last eight league games and they
have surged into second place in the league with some excellent
performances. Their remaining eight fixtures see them up
against six teams in the lower half of the table. Normally
these would be games Notts would be expected to win, but
funnily enough, it is sometimes against the lesser sides
that the Ones come unstuck.
They have a good team spirit that helps them raise their
game for the important matches against the top sides, but
against sides like Wollaton and Racing, they can find it
difficult to get the results they ought to. The 2-2 home
draw with Racing Athletic proved this theory. Notts were
2-0 up and then managed to draw a game they should (in theory)
have won easily.
Second Team
Notts Reserves are still in with a shout for second place
in Division One too, although they were well and truly put
in their place by unbeaten Bracken Park in the their last
league fixture. This was Notts Twos first defeat in the
league since October, a run last 13 matches. They have six
games left including tough games against Bracken (again)
and Pakistan Centre. These games will decide whether the
Reserves can finish in the top two or not.
The side have naturally enough been playing with a lot
of confidence and have enjoyed their long winning streak.
Understandably their confidence will have been shaken following
such a heavy defeat to the Champions elect, what is important
is that they dont let this result ruin their season.
They must come out fighting and remember that one poor performance
doesnt take away the real achievements they have made
this season.
Third Team
Looking at the league table, you would think that Notts
Threes chance of a top two finish evaporated a long time
ago. However, their results of late have been as good as
any team in their division! They have won their last three
league games and re-discovered their scoring touch, netting
nine goals with only two conceded in reply. More importantly
some of these victories have been against teams in the top
half of the table and if they maintain their current form
in their remaining fixtures they could yet finish in a high
league position.
Third team statistician Nick Dracott has had a bet with
an unknown Notts player that the Threes will finish as the
highest placed side of all three teams!
Lets hope Nick is right and that all three Notts
sides finish in the medals at the end of the season!!
