As soon as the fixture lists were published,
it became clear that Notts faced a difficult start to the
new season.
The fixtures were particularly unkind to the
first team who were paired with four of the teams who finished
above them in the league last term in the first four games
of the season.
Despite a promising pre-season, with the majority
of games won, Notts have stuttered over the first few weeks.
Early season injuries have not helped as have the tendency
for players to take cheap, late summer holidays.
It also appears that the club has fewer players
signed on than originally thought with several players retiring
or moving on to new clubs. Many of these have been replaced
by new players, but for the first two Saturdays with all
three teams playing, the various managers were left with
few options in who to select. Obviously this situation will
improve as players return and get fit, but it proves that
you can never have too few players involved in the club.
At the time of going to press, the Ones have
yet to win, although they have played some good football
in patches.
The Reserves have demonstrated their usual inconsistencies,
drawing at Southwell, playing very poorly at O.E.s before
defying their poor form by thumping Brunts 4-0.
The Threes have completed four fixtures, wining
two and losing two, leaving them in mid table.
Although it seems that Notts aren't in a position
to tear up any trees, the season has only just begun and
there is still a lot to play for.
When the new faces settle in we will be in a
better position to judge the potential of the club for the
forthcoming season.
