The playing record of Nottinghamshire F.C. for
this season currently reads, played 20, won 6, drawn 4 and
lost 10.
Not a particularly impressive set of statistics,
but it perhaps hides the fact that, as a club, we are in
fact a lot stronger than we were 12 months ago.
Last season was a transition year, a merger
between two clubs with players and managers finding their
feet. The silverware that arrived at the end of the season
was a bonus no-one truthfully expected. The club had a lot
of players who perhaps felt they were doing the club a favour
by pulling on a green and white shirt on a Saturday and
who expected to easily get a place in the side of their
choice.
This season that attitude is changing and now
players are realising that they dont have the right
to claim a shirt for the following weekend without coming
training, phoning their manager or making themselves available
regularly.
The club not only has a large number of players
looking for a game, it also has better quality players at
its disposal.
The first team is largely unchanged from last
season but they have added one or two quality players to
their squad and are only perhaps one or two short of becoming
possible future Champions.
The second team is certainly stronger than last
season. Last term over 60 players were used throughout the
season, this time around we are trying to keep a much smaller
squad of committed players. Although the results have not
always gone for them, this a stronger team than last season
and if they can eradicate mistakes and believe in themselves
a little more, they will continue to improve.
The threes are benefiting tremendously from
Rob Johnsons firm leadership. Rob has made it clear
to his players that he expects them to come training and
work hard if they want to play on Saturday. All Rob (and
the other managers) is after is a squad of players who are
prepared to work together to make the club successful.
