Match Report

Showed Woodborough How To Play Total Football

Everyone turned up on time apart from Colin Spencer who was late for a change and blamed it on Paul Atkinson.

Jay & Rudd made Jay's Car windows steam up and just smiled as they stepped out. We went into the changing room and Colin gave us a speech on how to play today's game and how we were going to take our free kicks.

The game began on Woodborough's small pitch and Notts were attacking at a fast rate and Woodborough couldn't keep up with the pace. The Woodborough defence let the ball slip thru and Marcus was on it like a flash only for a defender to grab his shirt and pull him back for a free kick.

Swannell stepped up to take the free kick and simply blasted the ball wide of the goal. Notts were applying the pressure and Woodborough were all over the place. Marcus forced a Woodborough defender to kick the ball out for a throw in. Atko took the throw in and Willo flicked it on into the box and the Woodborough defender let it run to the keeper but Marcus ran in between the defender and keeper and lobbed the keeper from seven yards and put the ball into the top corner of the net one nil Notts.

Woodborough started to argue between themselves and kick off Notts carried on applying the pressure, Woodborough just had no ideas how to crack down on these Notts attack after a quick throw by Swannell to Marcus who flew down the line skipping pass one defender and crossing a ball into the box, that the keeper could only push out. The ball went straight into the path of Atko who volleyed the ball into the back of net to make 2 - nil.

Woodborough was getting pissed off with each other and was trying to make the Notts players argue but they were too busy playing football and within about 10 minutes of the restart after the second goal Willo had scored the third after the keeper failed to pick up a simple thru ball and Willo megs the keeper and puts the ball into the empty net.

After that Woodborough were chasing a game that they were never going to win but they tried, bless them and then Marcus scored an audacious goal with his left foot. A Woodborough defender went to put his foot onto the ball and missed. Marcus ran straight onto the ball and shot instantly with his left foot from about 20 yards on the right-hand side of the box. The ball cut thru the defence like a hot knife thru butter and left the keeper standing as the ball hit the inside post on the left hand side and hit the net on the right-hand side 4-nil Notts.

After that there was no more chances and the ref blew for half time.

At half time Colin was very happy and said that tremendous lads that's the best 45 minutes I have seen this season. He told the subs to warm up as he was going to make some changes within the next ten minutes.

The second half started and little happened as Woodborough were pressing for an early goal but it didn't come and Colin made his two subs by take Marcus and Atko off and putting Ady Dawkins on from the second team for his first appearance and Darren Rose the first team super sub better known as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

About five minutes after Marcus and Atko came off it started to throw it down with rain so we legged it to the changing and Swino followed suit leaving Martin Lynch to run the line and to get drenched.

Back to the football action not a lot happen really for about 20 minutes until Woodborough got a free kick from about 35 yards on the left-hand side of the pitch. They pushed up an extra five people and the ball beat everyone including the Notts keeper and went into the back of the net 1-4 Notts.

After that Notts started to apply the pressure again and when Ady Dawkins should have scored on his debut but got stuck in the muddy pitch. Notts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer popped up in the box late from a corner and scored with his eye to make Notts win 5-1.

MOM: Martin Lynch (For Get drenched As A Linesmen when Swino Ran Off)
