Not much difference between top and bottom
The tough start did not get any easier. But the good draw
at Trent University the previous week gave Notts hope of
better fortunes ahead. Cavaliers had won all their seven
games so far and proudly sat at the top of the Premiership.
The game was going to depend upon a disciplined performance
by Notts and the need to take the opportunities if and when
they arrived.
After the initial settling in period, Marcus wriggled free
and surged forward into the box. under the attention of
a Cav's defender. Marcus seemed to tread on the ball
but a penalty was awarded. Dean Wilson uncharacteristically
fired straight at the keeper and the opportunity to move
ahead had gone.
Defensively Notts were in good form restricting Cavaliers
to a few half chances throughout the game. To be fair Notts
attack was being blunted also.
The stalemate was broken when the Cavalier forward took
the ball neatly with his back to goal, held off the challenge
of Jay Culligan an planted the ball in the far corner out
of reach of the diving Dave Edwards.
The goal was a disappointment as a draw had looked the
most likely result. Notts however battled forward the try
to level the game with half chances falling to Paul Atkinson
and Martin Swannell however luck was not with us today.
The League team Manager, Pat Groome was watching the game
and gave kind words of encouragement, however points not
words are what are needed now.
