Missed chances costly
Pre season practice games had gone well,
however the fixture schedule arranged by 'Nick the Greek'
has given the 1st XI a tough start.
To avoid any verbal from the lads, he
has beat a hasty retreat to join his 'friend' Richard (I've
had enough, the Golden Boot was the last straw) Bagust in
Fiji.
The Club welcomed new players and with
injuries, holidays and the suspension, Notts had a new line
up. Caribs provided yet again an
immaculate pitch and dressing rooms of a high standard.
If only that was the case.
Notts started well and took an early lead
as a long ball found Dean Wilson, who had to wait for it
to drop, and he put it away nicely. Dean was again clear
down the right and delivered a perfect cross only for Marcus
to squeeze it wide at the far post. The Manager had warned
of spurned chances at this level and one goal never being
enough, and after a fine run Marcus shot over when normally
his finish would have been better.
Just before half time Paul Atkinson's
under hit back pass was intercepted. Keeper Dave Edwards
pulled off a good save but resulted in the ball being palmed
into the path of the on coming forward who tapped it into
the unguarded net.
It is important for Notts improve the
quality of passing this season in order to compete with
top sides, however Caribs showed Notts the way and it was
not a surprise that Caribs took the lead from their outstanding
No. 5 who was a danger coming forward. His long-range shot
was always going in and gave Dave no chance.
Surprisingly Caribs got nervous in the
last ten minutes as they tried to defend the lead, which
could have been greater. Notts had a great chance to level
when Wrighty elected to shoot at the near post with Marcus
and Dean unmarked in the six-yard box.
