Match Report

Need A Win To Keep Up With Top Three

The match had to be moved to Gresham ground because Notts pitch was unfit to play on so Bassingfield was playing an away match at home so they were really geared up for this seeing how they hadn't played for a couple of weeks.

Colin said if we are to stand any chance of finishing second in the league we need to win today.

The game kicked off and Notts started off lively with the wind against them but Bassingfield looked a little rusty. The first touch of some of their player was off to where there could not even stop the ball. They got into the game fairly quickly though and after Notts missed a few chances with Marcus heading and shooting wide and Willo heading a ball straight into the keepers hand Bassingfield went one nil up after Dave Edwards went on a run about in his box and Speno only half cleared Swannell's man was left by himself with a simple tap in.

Notts kicked off but didn't manage to score in the first half the ref blows the whistle.

Colin was happy with the progress with the team but said that the strikers need to finish their chances because it should have been at least 2-1 at half time and that the Bassingfield team could not last for 90 minutes.

We went out for the second half and the action began. Bassingfield started the way they finished the first half on top and applying the pressure. Notts were over hitting the ball with the wind on there side and expected the striker to chase the ball.

Then we got a corner Willo crossed the ball into the from right to the far post and Speno met it with head and it was cleared off the line by the defender only as far as Swannell who blasted the ball thru Marcus legs into the back off the net one all.

After that Willo would go thru and miss, Marcus would go thru and miss it seemed like it would be just a one all draw but, Marcus conjured up a piece of magic and twisted up Bassingfield defender and squared the ball to Willo who placed it into the empty net 2-1 Notts.

After Willo scored to make it 2-1 Bassingfield had no fight left and gave free kicks and corners away for fun and from another Willo corner Jay got his head to this cross and put it straight on to Marcus toe for a simple tap in to make it 3-1.

Bassingfield kicked again and not for the last time went on an attack only for Captain Stealth Mitch to take the ball of f one of the forwards and bang the ball up field for the first time in his career. Marcus ran straight onto the ball from the halfway line and ran on goal with a tired defender chasing shadows the the keeper ran out and Marcus wait until the keeper made a move and kicked the ball with the outside of his right boot and placed the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the net 4-1 to Notts and game, set and match.

All subs were used and Ady Wilson nearly gave a penalty away with his first and only touch.
