Out on sudden death pens
Notts ironically drew another
MAA side in the Intermediate Cup and after the disappointing
result against Bay two weeks previous were looking for revenge. This
time it was Lady Bay who started well and Notts were all
over the place as Bay won all the early challenges and outplayed
Notts.
It was of little surprise that
Bay took the lead on 15 mins. The lively young forward gave
Dicko a roasting. Twisting and turning he found space again
and fired Bay into the lead.
Notts were surprisingly out
of sorts and rode their luck in the first half-hour then
gradually started to get at Bay. In fact Marcus could have
put Notts level as he drew the keeper an unfortunately saw
the ball side pass the far post.
An enforced change was needed
in the back three. Adey Wilson man marked the young forward,
Dicko switched to sweeper and Mitch had the other forward.
A marked improvement saw Notts take the game to Bay and
after a good flick on by Chris Westerby, Ako should have
done better with his six-yard box header.
With Bay fading fast, Dean
Wilson shot wide with a spectacular scissors kick from outside
the box. Notts deserved something from the game and in the
final minute the ball seemed to strike a Bay defender in
the box. As appeals for a penalty seemed to go unanswered
Deano was tripped and a put away the resulting penalty.
Notts carried on dominating
the game as Bay faded but could not finish the game off.
The resulting
penalty shoot-out was 3-3 after 5 pens each with Willo,
Stubbo and Ako converting for Notts. The unfortunate Chris
Westerby missed his penalty and Notts were out.
The main thing
to take away from this game was the way we fought our way
back into the game. We all know penalties can go either
way.
