Match Report

NOTTS STILL GOT ONE HAND ON THE CUP

Cup day and every Notts player was on time apart from Paul Atkinson and Colin was giving the lads a roasting because of last week's performance.

Ashland Rovers turned up late and they were shocked to see Notts player warming up. Colin said 'This is still your cup and we still got one hand on the cup so lets go out there and win Ashland'. We cheered and step out on to the pitch of the first half.

The game began and Notts got off to a lively start and applied the pressure early on.

Willow had a chance on goal after the keeper booted the ball straight to him. Willow controlled the loose ball and then processed towards goal and took a shot and it just went over the bar.

Notts had a few more chances with a spectular overhead shot by Atkinson which just went over the bar and Willow having a goal disallowed.

Ashland's keeper took a quick kick which went to one of his midfield player who put a lovely thru ball into his strikers path and which split Notts defence in half and the striker processed toward goal and hit a shot right across Dave one nil Ashland. Notts players started arguing amongst each other although Notts had most of the procession.

Notts kicked off and was still running the game but could get a goal that they deserve as Marcus got caught offside after slotting the ball pass keeper into the empty net.

Second half start and Notts applied the pressure look for the equaliser and within about 10 minutes Notts got a penalty and Willow step up and convert the ball into the back of the net one all.

Within five minutes of Notts scoring a Ashland winger flew down the wing going pass the midfield and defence and crossed it over to the far post and a late run from a Ashland midfielder was not pick up which resulted in the midfielder having a free header on the back post two one Ashland. Notts started arguing again and Ashland kept on playing and within about 5 minutes it was three one Ashland.

A close shot from a Ashland midfielder and he said after scoring now kept this lead and get into the semi finals.

Notts had 11 minutes and 20 seconds to get two goals. The heat was on now Ashland was looking like they were going to be in the semifinals and for some reason Notts stopped arguing at each other and started to apply the pressure.

With about 3 minutes of Ashland scoring Willow latched onto a thru ball skip passed one defender in the box and shot at the near post and scored 2-3 Ashland. Ashland heads started to drop and there were a few scary moments when Ashland broke free and Stubbings came to the rescue.

Colin made a few tactical move just before that, where he pushed Jay into the midfield and brought new player Daryl Rose on for Paul Rudd and Stubbings went into the back three.

Darren Spencer pick up the ball just in his own half and whacked it up field to Marcus. The Ashland keeper came running out Marcus just managed to nip the ball passed the keeper into the path of the Rose who tapped the ball into the empty net three all, Ashland can not believe what they were seeing the ref blew for fulltime.

The game went into extra time and now Notts looked an outfit that could win Ashland before the penalties.

Notts kicked off and played some nice flowing football, which saw Paul Atkinson round the keeper and put the ball into an empty net 4-3 Notts.

Ashland was out of sorts and Notts won the game but could have got more if Marcus could have hit the target.
