Rudders late equaliser
Notts knew they had to win this game to stand any chance
of the runners up spot. This under achieving Dayncourt side
had earlier inflicted a surprised home defeat to dint Notts
undefeated record since Christmas.
It was Notts who took the lead when the bouncing ball
hit the Dayncourt defenders hand in the box and Dean Wilson
accepted the gift with a penalty goal which the keeper half
saved but Deano put away the rebound.
Three events changed the course of the game as the impressive
Daycourt side played good counter attacking football.
First Dave 'keepers ball' Edwards a simple cross for the
grateful Dayncourt forward to fire home on the goal line.
Secondly Chris Westerby's non existing man marking job
on the Dayncourt key midfield player.
Thirdly a glaring open goal miss by Marcus on the stroke
of half time.
Dayncourt meanwhile finished a sweeping end to end move
with a fine goal to take a half time 2-1 lead.
The second half saw Notts surge forward knowing only a
win could keep their second place hopes alive. Time was
running out as Notts pressed and pressed but Dayncourt stood
firm and Notts luck seemed to have run out.
Against his managers orders, Marcus delivered a long throw
into the box which was not fully cleared and Paul Rudd fired
home from close range to gain a deserved equaliser, but
would a point be enough.
Well that's all history now, Trent gained wins in all their
last matches to pip us into second place by goal difference.
Although it is disappointing to come so close, remember,
after five games Notts 1st XI were bottom of the league
with only 2 points. Look at us now!
Thanks for a great season.
