Late equaliser for Bay
Disappointed with no
points from the first two games Notts visited last seasons
League and Cup runners up. Last season Notts were unable
to take a point from Bay in the League but of course beat
them in the Senior Cup Final.
Notts started well with new
midfield duo Chris Westerby and Martin Swannell linking
well. The team produced good passing football that gave
them an early lead from Paul Atkinson who was operating
in a role behind the front two. Paul made himself space
outside the box to fire a low shot into the corner.
Notts were all over Bay pinning
them into their own half. Notts should once again have increased
their lead. Ako squandered an easy chance after beating
every player in the box including his own and somehow hit
the bar with an open goal beckoning.
Bucko and Stubbsy raiding down
the flanks saw plenty of the ball but could not deliver
the telling crosses needed. Bucko found himself in a with
a chance when the Bay keeper took a quick free kick in the
box straight to him but the chance was not taken and resulted
in a corner.
The only danger from Bay came
from the ariel threat of the Bay captain Derek Hason and
the unsettling tactics used to by the Bay forward.
The second half saw Bay gradually
get more into the game however, it was Notts who struck
again this time from Marcus Hall who raced clear and played
a one-two off the Bay keeper and put Notts two up.
Bay to their credit pushed
players forward to try and salvage something from the game.
Notts however should have caught them on the break on several
occasions and this allowed Bay to gain in confidence.
A superb through ball turned
the Notts defence and Adey (POY) fetched down the Bay forward.
The resulting penalty give Bay new hope and they pushed
forward as Notts tired. A last minute corner was fired home
by Bay and Notts left the field wondering how they did not
win this fixture.
