EMTEC, bottom of the league, conceded plenty,
not scored many. This presented the ideal opportunity to
bounce back from the debacle at Edwinstowe last week.
EMTEC turned up fifteen minutes before kick-off
and then spent an age finding pegs for the nets. The game
eventually starts and Notts are into their stride quickly
creating four or five clear cut chances in the first ten
minutes all of which are wasted.
Notts continue to press but start to get caught
by the EMTEC tactic of everyone charging forward when they
have the ball, the EMTEC runners get behind the Notts midfield
and cause the Notts defence some uncomfortable moments.
EMTEC's tactics leave them vulnerable on the counterattack
but Notts still fail to take their chances.
Eventually Notts do manage to score, Derek fires
in a shot from 20 yards that the EMTEC keeper waves wide
only to watch in astonishment as the ball flies into the
corner of the net. Notts fail to build on the goal and EMTEC
continue to stream forward at every opportunity, in one
such attack the ball breaks in the Notts penalty area and
Scott is adjudged to have brought the EMTEC player down.
Notts continue to create chances and Nigel is
picked out by a square ball from Marco as he arrives in
the box unmarked to slot the ball back across the keeper
and into the far corner.
Half-time 2-1. The players are told that the
performance is not good enough and they will need to improve
or they could end up facing an embarrassing reverse.
The second half starts and Notts continue to
play in the same vein as the first half and it is no surprise
to anyone on the sideline that EMTEC equalise and at that
stage start to look the likely winners of the game. Dramatic
changes need to be made, it is time to unleash Willo!
Jez is withdrawn and replaced by Willo who turns
the game irrevocably in Notts' favour. With Willo taking
centre-stage Notts start to exert control over EMTEC as
they start to pass the ball better and retain possession.
Willo scores two goals to make it 4-2 and take
the game beyond EMTEC. Sami adds a fifth with a well timed
run and neat finish before Willo completes a well-deserved
hattrick to make the final score 6-2.
A convincing scoreline in the end, mainly thanks
to Willo, but a far from satisfactory performance which
against a better side would have resulted in a Notts defeat.
