Six games played, five wins and a draw, progress made
in two cup competitions, 18 goals scored with only 3 in
reply, importantly FIVE clean sheets in the six matches.
Impressive stuff from the clubs leading side.
Colin's team has started well and is certainly turning
out some consistent performances early on. The testing months
are October and November which see the Ones have fixtures
against title contenders Trent University, Caribbean Cavaliers
and Ashland Rovers. By Christmas we should have a good idea
if the side are up to the challenge and are realistic title
contenders.
The first round of the MAA Cup has been safely negotiated
and Notts will be battling hard on both fronts over the
coming months.
The Ones certainly have a stronger squad this term. From
last season they have lost one player, but gained three
or four quality new ones and if injuries should occur (such
as the one unfortunately inflicting Paul Atkinson s
ankle at present) then there should be an able replacement
ready to step in.
There is strength in depth in the Reserves as well with
one or two members of the squad playing well enough to push
for a chance in the 1st XI before too long.
Notts Twos have started the season reasonably well and
remain unbeaten in the league and they have put in some
hard working performances against some tough opposition.
Their only real disappointment has been the unlucky defeat
in the 1st round of the MAA Cup (for the third season running!)
The defeat was incurred after being reduced to ten men and
losing an equalizer to a dodgy penalty in the last few seconds
of normal time!
The Twos certainly look stronger defensively this season.
Wayne Elmhirst has progressed from the Threes and has not
looked out of place. He has been joined by Henry Overton
and Marco Stasic who have also made a smooth transition
into the new team.
Our 3rd XI have made a solid start, with a 3-3-2 record
from their eight games to date. They have progressed into
the second rounds of the MAA Minor and the Notts Junior
Cups.
The Threes squad has taken a while to become settled,
with several new players being tried out and the last month
has seen manager Rob Johnsons squad vary in size from
12 to 18! It is certain that the Threes will end up with
a large squad again this season. The club needs this playing
strength in order to survive the injuries and unavailability
that will surely come. At some point.
The players who get into the side from the large squad
will probably be the reliable, dependable ones who prove
that they can train and play on a regular basis.
