Match Report

NOTTS' BAD RUN CONTINUES

This was by far the weakest team that Nottinghamshire have put out for a 1st team in many years. 7 1st team 'regulars' were unavailable (or "rested" for the upcoming semi-final).

The game started off quite evenly, until at about 15 mins into the game Chris Buckland took a throw in that went straight to the opposition, who then deftly took the ball past the defence to the back post, and then the ball was shot across goal for an easy tap-in. Lack-lustre defending contributed to us being 1-0 down. The game went flat after their goal until Marco took the ball and whilst under pressure coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-1 at half time.

2nd half - DISASTER !!!!

Darren Spencer executed a needless challenge with the Lady Bay striker in the area and conceded a penalty which Dave Edwards was unfortunate not to save. 2-1 Lady Bay. The next 30 minutes were dominated by Notts with many chances going begging. 1 chance fell to Marcus who shot and the ball hit the underside of the bar and went down and bounced on the goal line - like England's goal against Germany in the 1966 World Cup final.

Unfortunately, there was no Russian linesman, only a crippled Adey Wilson who was too slow to keep up with play, making him unable to determine whether the ball had crossed the line or not. All in all it was a wasted 3 points…
