Nottinghamshire FC's excellent start to the season continued as they defeated close rivals AFC Beeston 2-1 in their closest encounter yet of the new season.
The game marked the club's first ever match at the Carrington Sports Ground and the occasion was marked by a hard working performance that saw Notts just have too much for a well organised Besston outfit.
The visitors began the game marginally the better for the opening ten minutes, but Notts slowly began to get on top and after 35 minutes a deep right wing cross found top goalscorer Daryl Rose at the far post and his looping header dropped over the helpless keeper into an empty net.
The second half was a similarly tight affair with both teams going close on several occasions. Notts managed to get some breathing space half way through the half as another right wing cross saw Stuart McNeil ghost in at the far post to head home.
The visitors kept plugging away and their persistence was rewarded with five minutes left as Ireson turned in a low cross.
Notts saw the game out to make it 21 points out of 21 and to maintain their lead at the top of Division Two. |
