This was a home game but felt like an away game. The Wollaton school pitch has been changed into a running track ready for the summer term. As a result It the team had to get used to a new setting.
Boots “A” are rock bottom of the league and this was a golden opportunity to make three points. The conditions were definitely going to play a part, Greeny noting that the wind was like sticking your head out of a car window on the motorway! Whoever played on the flanks were in for a busy afternoon.
Notts played with the wind in the first half and failed to capitalise fully. Although they pressed an opening goal proved elusive, for Notts anyway. A Boots ball over the top was met by their eager and pacey forward who got a lucky bounce in a challenge with Errington. He made the most of it and curled the ball well over Spencer in goal.
The set back for Notts was short lived as an equaliser came within 5 minutes.
The second half was against the wind but like a number of times this season, this seemed to make Notts play good football. Being forced to keep the ball grounded has worked well!
An early second half goal set the tone as Notts barraged the Boots goal. A late flurry of goals put the game out of site and Notts went in at the end very comfortable winners. Greensmith (twice), Groves, Spencer and Stasic all getting on the score sheet. Stasic with the cheekiest of finishes – taking the ball from in front of the keeper with his chest and finishing from a tight angle.
The fact that Boots had one second half set piece (a free kick) is testament to how strong Notts were in this game. Another good result.
