Nottinghamshire FC got straight back to winning ways after their shock home defeat last Saturday, although they initially made hard work of this 4-1 victory over Cavaliers Reserves.
With top scorer Daryl Rose out through injury, manager Paul Atkinson made some positional changes for this game pairing youngsters Callum Martin and Shaun Groves in attack with Stuart McNeil slotting in at right full back.
The home side made a slow start to the game, trying to get the ball from back to front too quickly and although the home side created some half chances, it was the visitors who played the better football early on and took the lead after a quarter of an hour.
Notts didn't get back on terms until 10 minutes from half time. A free kick was conceded by the visitors on the edge of their area and with the defensive wall being formed over 15 yards from the ball, Steven O'Neill was able to pick his spot and smash it past the helpless keeper.
After a half time tongue lashing from their manager, Notts played much better in the second period, keeping possession and picking holes in the Cavs defence.
The second period was only five minutes old when Andy Johnson stole forward from midfield to glance home a header from a free kick and Notts never looked back.
Johnson added his second from another header and Lewis Atkinson also got himself on the scoresheet.
There could have been more goals. Notts hit the post twice and were flagged offside on numerous occasions, but ultimately it was a comfortable win that maintained Notts position at the top of the Division. |
