Nottinghamshire FC completed the double over Linby CW Reserves in a hard fought encounter at Carrington on Saturday.
Notts began the game brightly, but both sides had chances in the opening quarter. Notts were getting a lot of joy down the flanks and Greensmith and Rose were enjoying their renewed partnership up front.
A flowing Notts move on 15 minutes saw the Denton, Rose and Greensmith to combine and put winger Atkinson clean through, but he lost his footing as he came to strike the ball and the chance was gone. On 25 minutes a Notts free kick was deflected by the Linby wall, only for the referee to penalise a visiting defender for stopping the ball with a raised arm and awarded Notts a penalty.
With regular penalty taker O'Neill away, Greensmith took the responsibility and promptly side footed the ball wide of the right hand upright.
Notts made up for this glaring miss ten minues later. A deep corner was only half cleared and Daryl Rose fired the ball back towards goal and it went in via a defender's boot at the near post.
The second half saw Notts get the ball down and pass it and they controlled the second period. linby were stubborn in defence and it took the home side another 25 minutes to get the vital second goal. Striker Rose beating the keeper and a defender to a header that dropped over them both and ran into an unguarded net.
A third goal followed 5 minutes later. A right wing move saw Greensmith cross for Rose to thump home to clinch his hat trick.
Hargeaves grabbed a consolation late on for the visitors as the home side fell asleep. |
