This was a huge game for Notts. The league table looked precarious and Netherfield were down there with us! This was the 6 pointer needed to get things back on track.
Netherfield have a bobbly pitch but this didn’t stop Notts playing some excellent passing football. They didn’t look like a team lacking in confidence. The first half football was rewarded with Dyce finishing of a good move, orchestrated well by Stasic coming in off the left wing. On top of this chance after chance went begging and Notts were unlucky to go in at half time only one up.
The second half saw much of the same football, Notts creating chances but not finishing. Then in a bizarre 5 minute spell, Netherfield scored 2 in quick succession. They had pushed 3 upfront in order to get a result and the Notts shape didn’t adapt quick enough. Their first was a scrappy finish inside the box but that seemed to get their tails up as they pressed for a second. Netherfield took the advantage with a volley from inside the area. Keeper could do nothing as it went through a sea of players.
Notts made some substitutions and pressed for the equaliser, going close 3 or 4 times. Unfortualty the advancing play must have left gaps at the back. With 10 minutes to go Albion found themselves with 3 on 2, passed it to their player on the left who lobbed the keeper from outside the area. I swear it came off his shin!
Another good performance rewarded with precisely no points. Notts need to stay in this division but can’t afford to drop points at rivals such as Netherfield.
