Santos are second in the league and Notts were buoyed by some impressive results. This promised to be a good game. Notts learned that teams had come to Santos, bullied them and they turned over. Notts planned to do just that. The Green and Whites started the much brighter of the teams. They played the ball well from the back and used the wings on this wide pitch well. For 20 minutes Notts were on top without capitalising.
On 20 Minutes Santos had their first break. Their pacey forward ran down the left channel and curled the ball past keeper Rob who managed to get a shoulder to the ball. This felt unjust and Notts were rightly annoyed.
Half time and Notts were still confident of getting something out of this game. The second half was just as good. Denton proving a handful in attack and defence, and Red making a nuisance of himself up front.
Notts equaliser should have come earlier but Red latched onto a loose ball and scored past the keeper. His celebration was hilarious, taking his shirt off, Paulo Di Canio Style, and ran towards their Linesman. Red waved the shirt in his face! Of course we cannot condone this kind of behaviour but it was clear what Red had felt about some of his off-side decision earlier in the game!
Santos got their winner when deflected shot fell to an OFF SIDE player who scored. He got lucky on the deflection and the decision – oh to have an unscrupulous lino on our side! Notts deserved more out of the game, but you never anticipate getting much from second in the league.
This was an excellent performance. Not so much a game of two halves as a game of two linesman!
