Manager Kalia changed the system for this match and Notts played in a 4-4-2 formation. The green and whites couldn’t have started better, Beri latched onto a Shakespeare header to put Notts 1-0 up within 8 minutes. Shortly after York doubled the lead with a low drive which got a cheeky deflection and finished beyond the sprawling Trident keeper. After a corner Gajree lashed a bouncing ball into the net and Notts deservedly went in at half time 3-0 up.
The second half was much of the same. Notts played well and created chances. The second half goals were much better and came from York cleaning up loose ball from the edge of the area and a fantastic overhead shot from Beri, but the pick of the bunch was a 35 yard free kick from Mott. Mott claims it was a shot but it looked very much like a cross to Rose at the back post! Kalia made a double substitution on 70 mins and cruelly took off both of the players that were on a hat-trick!
Shakespeare steadied the midfield with effective battling and Dosanjh put in a good performance at right back, Rose played well, winning headers and linking play, he did everything but score.
The Trident goals came from loose defending because of lapses in concentration. It put a blemish on an otherwise good performance but had little bearing on the final outcome.
