Letter From the Other Side of the World

When I was young I never needed anyone, and makin' love was just for fun, those days are gone...

Flea pits, Fame & Bali

22/1/02 I've been on the road 6 months today - woohoo!

I celebrated this by getting up at 3.30 am and climbing a volcano in the pitch dark in time for sunrise. It wasnt hard to get out of their flea infested pit I was sleeping in - the headboard was covered in woodlice or something equally horrible.
The climb was bloody hard work especially with no fucking torch but it was worth it though. Twisted my ankle on the way down- Oh no,Here comes Victor Meldrew...

In Kintimani I got ripped off twice, I still have Bali belly, I bought a painting for a pound just to get rid of someone (I’m too soft for Asia) and I burnt my leg quite nastily on the exhaust of a motorbike whilst I was being taken up a steep hill with my backpack on! Come back Nick - I miss you mate! When I was young I never needed anyone, and makin' love was just for fun, those days are gone... to the bar methinks...

15/2/02 Fame at last ! Take a look at this website....

I’m in Singapore ! - arrived a few hours ago. Its a real contrast to Bali - Big skyscrapers everywhere and everything is clean. Its very hot and humid as you’d expect being right next to the equator. Went to six places before finding one with a dorm. My backpack seems to be getting heavier and heavier. Three places were full, one was no longer open and one seemed to be a brothel! Its a right dodgy place and I just left the owner fixing the broken lock on the door. I will write more tomorrow when I’ve settled in.

There’s a curry and a cold one with my name on it somewhere

Rich.
