During Notts Reserves recent game against Bassingfield Reserves
at Alford Road in West Bridgford, second team captain Paul Stevenson
was the unfortunate victim of a car park robbery when his Mondeo
estate had its window smashed and his sports bag stolen by some
hit and run thieves who kept the engine of their (probably stolen)
car running while this crime was committed before they sped off.
Wolfie's bag contained little or no money, only his clothes.
As one Committee member later reported, "Police are looking
for a thief with no taste."
There is no truth in the rumour that the thieves, when they had
discovered what they had got, later tracked down where he lives
and broke back into his car to put the bag back.
On a serious note, it is a warning for players who put their belongings
in their cars before matches. These thieves probably did the rounds
of several park pitch car parks that afternoon. On this occasion
they came away with little - but the inconvenience of insurance
claims is trouble enough, without possibly losing wallets or valuables.
